Biography

Jessica Thompson has been a registered nurse (RN) since 2008 and is an acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP) and advanced certified hospice and palliative care nurse (ACHPN), practicing since 2013 as a palliative care consultant in hospital settings. She worked as a bedside nurse in surgical trauma intensive care and as a hospice case manager before pursuing a master's in nursing. She received her MSN at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing in August 2013 and has practiced in the Wellstar Health System and Grady Health System. She was the founding site coordinator for Schwartz Rounds at Grady Memorial Hospital and precepts nurse practitioner students each year. She is passionate about encouraging others toward compassionate health care and has worked in end-of-life care since 2011. Her first publication was in July 2020, titled “DNR Status on Nurse Decision Making,” in the Southern Medical Association Journal. She is currently working on her DNP at Emory University and investigating the implementation of the respiratory distress observation scale (RDOS) for hospice patients in Grady Hospital. She graduates in December 2022.
