Residents training at Emory have the opportunity to gain a rich training experience in palliative medicine.  Working with the Emory Palliative Care Center faculty, residents perform palliative care consultations and provide patient support for hospitals in the Woodruff Health Sciences Center and its affiliates.

Upon completion of the rotation, the resident will understand more about the skill set of a palliative care practitioner and how to care for patients in an interdisciplinary team.  This includes knowing the potential of palliative care to improve quality of life for seriously ill patients and how to alleviate pain and manage symptoms.  Importantly, residents learn about psychosocial, emotional and spiritual suffering and how to discuss this with severely ill patients and their families.

The Emory Palliative Care Center is a nationally recognized leader in palliative medicine with the vast majority of our clinicians with advanced training and certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
