Dr. Scott Akin is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine and the division of geriatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine.  He is board certified in Family Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. 

Dr. Akin received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his MD from the University Of New Mexico School Of Medicine.  He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez California, where he remained as a faculty member in the department of internal medicine, practicing in the ICU as well as outpatient oncology clinic until 2012.

Dr. Akin has a strong interest in medical education and completed the UCSF Northern California Faculty Development Fellowship in 2011.  He currently serves as the palliative care rotation coordinator for residents.  His areas of interest include advance care planning (specifically POLST education and implementation), and the integration of complementary and alternative medicine with palliative care.
